∑ What your result means

The Age Pension is means-tested using two separate tests — an assets test and an income test — and Services Australia pays whichever test produces the lower (more restrictive) pension amount.

▦ How this calculator works

The calculator estimates a reduction under each test: the assets test reduces the pension by roughly $3 per fortnight for every $1,000 of assessable assets above the relevant homeowner threshold, and the income test reduces it by 50 cents per dollar of income above the threshold. The larger of the two reductions is applied to the maximum rate.

◇ Assumptions and what's not included

This uses the full-pension asset thresholds effective 1 July 2026. Deeming rules apply to financial assets, and pension age, residence rules, supplements and special circumstances require separate checks.

▤ What to do next

Use this as a rough guide only and confirm your actual entitlement with Services Australia or a Centrelink financial information service, since thresholds and rates change with each indexation date.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it matter whether I own my home?+

Homeowners have a lower asset-free threshold than non-homeowners because the principal home is generally excluded. Select the housing status that applies.

What does 'deeming' mean for the income test?+

Financial assets like bank accounts and shares are deemed to earn income at set rates for the income test, regardless of what they actually earn — this calculator asks for assessable income directly rather than deeming it.

How often do the thresholds change?+

Asset and income thresholds, along with maximum pension rates, are indexed in March and September each year, so figures here will drift out of date between updates.

Does this check my age or residency eligibility?+

No, this only estimates the means-tested amount — you also need to meet Age Pension age and residency requirements to qualify at all.
